2010/2011 Upcoming Season

On behalf of the Women’s Doubles Squash Association, I would like to say a big thank you all again for your support for this past 2009/2010 Women’s Doubles Squash Season.  With the addition of two new tour stops, the Turner Cup in New York City and the Canadian Pro Open in Burlington Ontario, we had 5 very successful tour events including The St Paul Indian Summer Open, The Hashim Khan Open in Denver and the Players Championship in Long Island.

We are always looking for new ways to improve and grow the tour.  One way we want to improve it is by forming a new rules and rankings committee that includes, Marie Vlcek, Amy Milanek and Orla O’Doherty. This gives the tour players a voice as well as creating a more professional WDSA brand. The new rules and rankings format as well as the prize money breakdown will be updated on the wdsatour.com website under membership as well as a new membership form for the 2010/2011 season.  A Junior Development Committee of Lee Belknap, Suzie Pierrepont, Sarah O’Dell and Josh Schwartz was also formed to start development clinics to encourage juniors and collegiate players to start playing.  Our goal is to have our first clinic in October 2010 in the Greenwich CT area.  The WDSA is in the process of trying to form a 501C3 or start a new WDSA Fund with US Squash.  This Fund will be under complete control of the WDSA with net profits of the fund being distributed to programs that the WDSA Fund Committee feels needs our help.  We will be in touch on any news regarding our status.  With the continued support of the WDSA Committee – Stephanie Hewitt, Meredeth Quick, Emily Lungstrum, Lee Belknap, Marci Sier and Narelle Krizek and our Board – Patrick Turner, Christine DeRose, Rob Krizek and Narelle Krizek, we look forward to building on the years past.

We have 5 tournaments continuing for the upcoming season with the Turner Cup increasing its prize money to a record $50,000 with proceeds benefiting the Breast Cancer Foundation through the Entertainment Industry Foundation. The Hashim Khan is also increasing their prize money to $20,000 with proceeds benefiting Mile High Squash.  James Hewitt the Director of the ISDA has confirmed that he will be running this year’s World Doubles Title in Toronto.  The format will be same as the previous year, which is; you must play with someone from your own country.  And the St Paul Indian Summer Open kicking the season off in November 2010 and the Players Championship ending the WDSA season in April before we all head to Toronto to battle for our countries.  As soon as we have any additional information on other events, it will be passed along.  Please see the schedule below as well as the US and Canadian National events.
